R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Residents of Houston lost a beloved neighbor and a |
|
revered business leader with the passing of Robert Franklin Dean on |
|
July 15, 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Houston in 1942, Bob Dean was the son of |
|
Claude Nathan Dean and Nellie Gladis Dean; he earned his bachelor's |
|
degree from the University of Houston before embarking on a career |
|
in insurance; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1980, Mr. Dean cofounded Dean & Draper Insurance |
|
Agency, a firm that he developed into a National Top 100 agency with |
|
150 employees in Houston and the surrounding area; with his |
|
industry expertise and well-honed business acumen, he was able to |
|
run a profitable enterprise while also respecting the concerns of |
|
clients, associates, and employees alike, and he saw his company |
|
win many accolades, including selection by Texas Monthly as one of |
|
the Top 100 Places to Work; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed businessman gave generously of his |
|
time and talents as a director of both the Independent Insurance |
|
Agents of Texas and the Independent Insurance Agents of Houston; |
|
committed to fostering the next generation of industry leaders, he |
|
also served as cofounder and chair of the advisory board that |
|
assists the Insurance & Risk Management program at the University |
|
of Houston-Downtown; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Dean and his wife Betsy Ellen Dean shared a |
|
fulfilling marriage until her passing; fortunate to find love once |
|
again, he exchanged wedding vows with Brenda Forrest in 2006, and |
|
they enjoyed great happiness together; Bob Dean was the proud |
|
patriarch of a large blended family, to whom he was a ready source |
|
of encouragement and wisdom, and his acts of kindness, large and |
|
small, left an indelible impression on the hearts of many; |
|
passionate about quality family time, RV trips, tailgating, and |
|
country music, he also deeply treasured his affiliation with the |
|
Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, where he was active in the |
|
congregation for more than two decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, A visionary leader in his field, Bob Dean forged a |
|
distinguished career while never losing sight of what matters most, |
|
and his memory will endure in the hearts of all those whose lives he |
|
touched; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of Robert Franklin Dean and extend sincere sympathy to the members |
|
of his family: to his wife, Brenda Dean; to his children, Kyle Dean |
|
and his wife, Kristen, and Courtney Dean Tully and her husband, |
|
Bryan; to his sister, Marjorie Wooster, and her husband, Jeff; to |
|
his nephews, Patrick Darnell, Jr., and his wife, Johnna, and Gene |
|
Darnell and his wife, Carla; to his nieces, Tracie Resendez and her |
|
husband, Daniel, and Lisa Franks; to his stepchildren, Robert |
|
Kanary and his wife, Vicki, Shasta Ely and her husband, Shawn, and |
|
Keaton Forrest; to his grandchildren, Hunter Dean, Blakely Tully, |
|
Shannon Hansen, and Christian, Cason, and Lexis Ely; and to his |
|
other relatives and many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert |
|
Franklin Dean. |
