SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Eric Seymour Reed
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of El Paso in mourning the loss of Eric Seymour Reed, who
  died June 8, 2013, at the age of 54; and
         WHEREAS, Eric Reed was born in El Paso on August 27, 1958; he
  became a well-known leader in the El Paso community as a prominent
  advocate for the rights of people with disabilities; and
         WHEREAS, He was a former advocacy coordinator for the Volar
  Center for Independent Living and was a member of its board, and
  he was a member of the Governor's Committee on People with
  Disabilities; and
         WHEREAS, He worked in collaboration with other leaders to
  pass the first city ordinance in the nation prohibiting
  discrimination against people with disabilities; he received the
  El Conquistador Award and numerous other meritorious service
  awards for his outstanding citizenship and volunteerism; and
         WHEREAS, Eric was a man of strong character and high
  standards, and his courageous attitude toward life was
  inspirational to others; he was a generous, kindhearted person
  who was respected in the community for his leadership and his
  exceptional accomplishments; and
         WHEREAS, Eric Reed was beloved by many, and he will long be
  remembered with affection and appreciation by all who were
  privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences
  to the bereaved family of Eric Seymour Reed; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
  so in memory of Eric Reed.
