SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 27
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Ernestine Doris Barrett on the grand occasion of her
  88th birthday; and
 
         WHEREAS, This gracious lady is well known for her charm and
  generosity of spirit, and she is a beloved resident of our state; and
 
         WHEREAS, Ernestine Barrett was born July 13, 1925, in
  Terrell, to Chappie and Lovie Smith; she is a graduate of Burnett
  High School and attended Bishop College in Marshall; and
 
         WHEREAS, She met her husband, the late Percy Barrett, Sr.,
  in Dallas, and the couple married in 1946; they raised three
  children, Percy Barrett, Jr., Lavetta Barrett-Adkison, and Kerry
  Barrett, and were blessed with six grandchildren and six
  great-grandchildren; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Barrett enjoyed a long and productive career
  with Texas Instruments; one of the first African Americans to
  work for the company, she amassed an impressive attendance record
  and was respected and admired by her colleagues; and
 
         WHEREAS, She is a woman of many talents and interests and
  has traveled to destinations around the world; a beloved and
  esteemed member of her community, she is noted for her courage,
  her compassion for others, and her enthusiasm for living each day
  to the fullest; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend best wishes to
  Ernestine Doris Barrett on the occasion of her 88th birthday and
  extend to her best wishes for continued success in all her
  endeavors; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Mrs.
  Barrett as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
