SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 65

Winnette Vinyard Wimberly |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of Clear Lake City in mourning the loss of Dr. Winnette |
|
Vinyard Wimberly, who died July 10, 2013, at the age of 78; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Winnette Vinyard was born on August 31, 1934, in |
|
the community of Gander Slough, Texas; she grew up in Prairie |
|
Lea, where she had recently refurbished her childhood home and |
|
where she lived until moving back to Clear Lake City due to her |
|
illness; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, While her four children were still young, she |
|
decided to fulfill her longtime ambition to become a |
|
pediatrician; she attended Texas Woman's University and Rice |
|
University and was one of the first women to graduate from The |
|
University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; she practiced |
|
pediatrics in the Clear Lake City area for 28 years and was |
|
beloved by her patients and highly respected by her colleagues; |
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Wimberly was an avid sports fan, and she |
|
enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and fishing; she had a great |
|
appreciation for fast vehicles, including cars, boats, and |
|
airplanes; she was an excellent cook and a gracious hostess who |
|
liked to have family gatherings; she also loved to travel and to |
|
spend time with her children and grandchildren; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She held strong beliefs and was fiercely loyal, |
|
and she was noted for her love of debate, her engaging |
|
personality, and her tenacity; in spite of her illness during her |
|
last 10 years, she maintained her feisty spirit and her zest for |
|
life; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Wimberly was devoted to her family and was a |
|
generous, kindhearted person who was respected in the community |
|
for her exceptional accomplishments; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A woman of integrity and strength, she gave |
|
unselfishly of her time to others, and she will long be |
|
remembered with affection and appreciation by all who were |
|
privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
|
condolences to the bereaved family of Dr. Winnette Vinyard |
|
Wimberly; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Dr. Winnette Wimberly. |
