SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 97
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Elizabeth Schleder for her outstanding work on behalf |
|
|
of Honor Flight Austin; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Betty Schleder is the Williamson County and Sun |
|
|
City representative for Honor Flight Austin, the local branch of |
|
|
the national nonprofit organization Honor Flight, which was |
|
|
created to pay tribute to our nation's veterans; the organization |
|
|
provides veterans with the opportunity to fly to Washington, D.C., |
|
|
to visit the memorials built to commemorate their invaluable |
|
|
contributions to our country's safety and security; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Schleder began fund-raising efforts on |
|
|
behalf of Honor Flight Austin almost immediately following her |
|
|
participation in the organization's inaugural trip in 2012; in a |
|
|
few short months, she was able to personally raise more than |
|
|
$40,000 for the program, enough to completely fund a flight; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, As part of her mission to raise funds, Mrs. Schleder |
|
|
has worked tirelessly with local businesses and groups, |
|
|
including the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs and various Sun City |
|
|
Neighborhood Representative Organizations; she has gone on to |
|
|
raise a total of more than $100,000, and she is seeking to raise |
|
|
enough funds to sponsor at least eight flights this year; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She is truly deserving of recognition for her |
|
|
dedication and commitment to serving our nation's veterans; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Elizabeth |
|
|
Schleder on her exceptional efforts on behalf of Honor Flight |
|
|
Austin and extend to her best wishes for continued success in all |
|
|
her endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
