R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The 80th birthday of an esteemed Texan truly merits |
|
special recognition, and Gladys Earl Coleman Williams of Corpus |
|
Christi marked this notable milestone on August 3, 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Bastrop, Mrs. Williams was born in 1933, |
|
the youngest of nine children of Early and Edith Coleman; she |
|
received her early education in a two-room schoolhouse before |
|
moving to Corpus Christi in 1950; while attending Solomon M. Coles |
|
High School, she excelled in academics, participated in choir and |
|
track, and earned the title of most valuable player for her |
|
performance on the basketball court; and |
|
WHEREAS, The former Gladys Coleman married her high school |
|
sweetheart, Johnny Williams, following her graduation; |
|
Mrs. Williams worked as an elevator operator and in the home of a |
|
local doctor before becoming a devoted homemaker, raising 4 |
|
children, Gloria, Carroll, Ruth, and Kevin; today, she is further |
|
blessed with 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams has been an active and engaged |
|
citizen; through the years, she has served as president of the PTA |
|
at Solomon M. Coles Elementary School and of the Corpus Christi |
|
Housing Authority Residents' Organization; in addition, she served |
|
on a housing panel that included former secretary of housing and |
|
urban development Henry Cisneros, and she has enjoyed participation |
|
in the Queen of Hearts Social Club; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dedicated to her family and community, Gladys |
|
Williams may reflect with pride on eight decades of life well lived, |
|
and it is indeed a pleasure to join with her friends and loved ones |
|
in honoring her on this memorable occasion; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Gladys Earl |
|
Coleman Williams on her 80th birthday and extend to her sincere best |
|
wishes for continued happiness and good fortune; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Williams as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
