Amend CSHB 570 (house committee printing) by adding the following appropriately numbered SECTION to the bill and renumbering subsequent SECTIONS of the bill accordingly:
SECTION ____. Article 15.17, Code of Criminal Procedure, is amended by adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows:
(a-1) At the time a magistrate fulfills the duties prescribed by Subsection (a), the magistrate shall inform the person arrested that, if the person is not a citizen of the United States of America, a plea of guilty or nolo contendere for the offense charged may affect the person's immigration or residency status and may result in deportation, the exclusion from admission to this country, or the denial of naturalization under federal law.
