AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

H.B. 1204 is intended to raise public awareness of the health risks associated with influenza and to encourage Texans to take proactive measures to reduce these risks.  H.B. 1204 designates October 1 as Influenza Awareness Day.

 

H.B. 1204 amends current law relating to designating October 1 as Influenza Awareness Day.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, by adding Section 662.059, as follows:

 

Sec. 662.059.  INFLUENZA AWARENESS DAY.  (a)  Provides that October 1 is Influenza Awareness Day to raise awareness of the health risks associated with influenza and encourage Texans to take proactive measures to reduce exposure to those risks.

 

(b)  Requires that Influenza Awareness Day be regularly observed by appropriate programs and activities.

 

SECTION 2.  Effective date: September 1, 2013.
