AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
The Texas Position Classification Plan, 1961, lays out salary classification groups for certain positions within the Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas (DPS). Interested parties assert that DPS troopers currently are compensated at a rate that is approximately 40 percent less than that of the highest paid law enforcement agents in the state, despite the challenging and changing threat environment faced by these troopers. The parties contend that, in order to recognize and compensate troopers at a level commensurate with their performance, troopers should be paid at a higher rate. H.B. 2100 seeks to provide authorization for up to a 15 percent pay increase each fiscal year for certain troopers.
H.B. 2100 amends current law relating to the salary for certain employees of the Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas.
