AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

Under current law, district attorneys, criminal district attorneys, and county attorneys with felony responsibility may maintain an independent law practice to supplement their pay unless their office is listed in the Professional Prosecutors Act.

The Professional Prosecutors Act provides additional state funding to supplement existing salaries in exchange for prohibiting the prosecutor from the private practice of law.

As proposed, S.B. 479 amends current law relating to the application of the professional prosecutors law to the district attorney for the 79th Judicial District.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.
