AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

Under the Education Code, each school district is required to participate in the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS). PEIMS is a system that compiles aggregated information about all students in public education. PEIMS provides student data in the areas of student demographics and academic performance, personnel, and school district finances. Students are tracked under PEIMS codes based on different distinguishing characteristics. At present, there is no PEIMS code for students in foster care, students in foster care are not being tracked and there is a lack of helpful information about these students.

C.S.S.B. 833 amends current law relating to the collection of data through the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) as to the foster care status of public school students.
