AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
In honor of fallen service members who have paid the ultimate price, S.B. 1807
requires that flags at state office buildings be flown at half-staff following
the death of a soldier killed in action.
S.B. 1807 requires that the United States flag and the Texas state flag be displayed at half-staff at each state office building, including the state capitol, after the death of a member of the armed forces who was a resident of Texas and killed in action. The day after the family has been notified of the soldier's death, the flags will be displayed at half-staff for one day. State agencies, including the State Preservation Board, will be notified by the Office of the Governor on which days the flags shall be flown at half-staff.
As proposed, S.B. 1807 amends current law relating to the display of flags at half-staff at state buildings to honor service members killed in action.
