A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the display of flags at half-staff at the Capitol |
|
building to honor service members killed in action. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 443.024, Government Code, is amended by |
|
adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: |
|
(e) The flag of the State of Texas and the flag of the United |
|
States shall be flown at half-staff at the Capitol building on the |
|
death of a member of the armed forces of the United States who was a |
|
resident of this state and who was killed in action. The flags shall |
|
be displayed at half-staff for one day following the date the |
|
person's family is notified of the person's death. The office of the |
|
governor shall notify the State Preservation Board of the days on |
|
which flags shall be flown at half-staff under this subsection. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
