A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to requiring a copy of a named insured's driver's license |
|
|
for issuance of an automobile insurance policy. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 1952, Insurance Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 1952.002 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 1952.002. DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED. An insurer may |
|
|
not deliver, issue for delivery, or renew a personal automobile |
|
|
insurance policy unless the policyholder provides the insurer with |
|
|
a copy of each named insured's driver's license. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies only to an insurance policy that |
|
|
is delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed on or after January 1, |
|
|
2014. An insurance policy delivered, issued for delivery, or |
|
|
renewed before January 1, 2014, is governed by the law as it existed |
|
|
immediately before the effective date of this Act, and that law is |
|
|
continued in effect for that purpose. |

SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
