A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the memorial designation of a highway by the Department
  of Public Safety.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 225, Transportation Code,
  is amended by adding Section 225.007 to read as follows:
         Sec. 225.007.  MEMORIAL DESIGNATION OF HIGHWAY BY DEPARTMENT
  OF PUBLIC SAFETY. (a) The Department of Public Safety may designate
  a part of the state highway system in memory of a commissioned law
  enforcement officer of the Department of Public Safety who has been
  killed in the line of duty.
         (b)  A marker designating a part of the state highway system
  under Subsection (a) must:
               (1)  contain uniform wording prescribed by the
  Department of Public Safety; and
               (2)  be of uniform dimensions as determined by the
  department.
         (c)  The department shall erect a marker at each end of the
  designated portion of the highway and at appropriate intermediate
  sites along the highway.
         (d)  The department shall repair or replace each marker
  required by this section and maintain the grounds for the marker.
         (e)  A designation under this section is in addition to any
  other designation provided by this chapter.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
