A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the memorial designation of a highway by the Department |
|
|
of Public Safety. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 225, Transportation Code, |
|
|
is amended by adding Section 225.007 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 225.007. MEMORIAL DESIGNATION OF HIGHWAY BY DEPARTMENT |
|
|
OF PUBLIC SAFETY. (a) The Department of Public Safety may designate |
|
|
a part of the state highway system in memory of a commissioned law |
|
|
enforcement officer of the Department of Public Safety who has been |
|
|
killed in the line of duty. |
|
|
(b) A marker designating a part of the state highway system |
|
|
under Subsection (a) must: |
|
|
(1) contain uniform wording prescribed by the |
|
|
Department of Public Safety; and |
|
|
(2) be of uniform dimensions as determined by the |
|
|
department. |
|
|
(c) The department shall erect a marker at each end of the |
|
|
designated portion of the highway and at appropriate intermediate |
|
|
sites along the highway. |
|
|
(d) The department shall repair or replace each marker |
|
|
required by this section and maintain the grounds for the marker. |
|
|
(e) A designation under this section is in addition to any |
|
|
other designation provided by this chapter. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
