A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
|
|
relating to the qualifications for counselors for battering |
|
intervention and prevention programs in certain counties. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

SECTION 1. Section 5, Article 42.141, Code of Criminal |
|
Procedure, is amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: |
|
(d) A person who provides direct battering intervention |
|
counseling services to a batterer for a program located in a county |
|
with a population of more than 50,000 must be licensed as a social |
|
worker, professional counselor, marriage and family therapist, or |
|
psychologist or a licensed physician who is board certified in |
|
psychiatry. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect January 1, 2014. |
