A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the disclosure of certain personal information from |
|
|
driver's license records maintained by the Department of Public |
|
|
Safety. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 521.049(c), Transportation Code, is |
|
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
|
(c) The department shall [may] make available for |
|
|
government purposes, including law enforcement purposes, all |
|
|
information from driver's license record files[, including
|
|
|
class-type listings, available] to an official of the United |
|
|
States, the state, or a political subdivision of this state, |
|
|
including law enforcement personnel. The department shall provide |
|
|
complete information and shall ensure that information made |
|
|
available under this subsection is used only for a government |
|
|
purpose [for government purposes only]. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
