A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|

|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to identification documents for title and vehicle |
|
|
registration applications. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 501.023, Transportation Code, is amended |
|
|
by adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(a-1) For purposes of Subsection (a), identification |
|
|
includes a passport, a consular identity document, or a national |
|
|
identity document that complies with federal law. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 502.043(d), Transportation Code, is |
|
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
|
(d) The department may require an applicant for |
|
|
registration to provide current personal identification as |
|
|
determined by department rule. The rule must allow for the use of a |
|
|
passport, a consular identity document, or a national identity |
|
|
document that complies with federal law as an acceptable form of |
|
|
identification. Any identification number required by the |
|
|
department under this subsection may be entered into the |
|
|
department's electronic titling system but may not be printed on |
|
|
the title. |

SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
