A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the election date for members of the board of trustees |
|
|
of an independent school district. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 11, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 11.0601 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 11.0601. DATE OF ELECTION. (a) The general election |
|
|
for the board of trustees of an independent school district shall be |
|
|
held on the November uniform election date under Section 41.001, |
|
|
Election Code. |
|
|
(b) The election shall be held as a joint election with any |
|
|
other election held on the same date in all or part of the school |
|
|
district under Chapter 271, Election Code. |
|
|
(c) The board of trustees of an independent school district |
|
|
changing an election date to comply with this section shall adjust |
|
|
the terms of office of its members to conform to the new election |
|
|
date. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 11.0581, Education Code, is repealed. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act applies only to an election ordered on |
|
|
or after the effective date of this Act. An election ordered before |
|
|
the effective date of this Act is governed by the law as it existed |
|
|
immediately before the effective date of this Act, and that law is |
|
|
continued in effect for that purpose. |
|
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
