A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to designation of alternative routes for the |
|
|
transportation of certain radioactive waste. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 401, Health and Safety |
|
|
Code, is amended by adding Section 401.0521 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 401.0521. ALTERNATIVE ROUTES FOR CERTAIN |
|
|
MUNICIPALITIES. The department in consultation with the Texas |
|
|
Department of Transportation shall, for each municipality with a |
|
|
population of 600,000 or more, designate, in accordance with |
|
|
federal law, alternative preferred routes around the municipality |
|
|
for the transportation of radioactive material for which hazardous |
|
|
materials transportation placarding is required under 49 C.F.R. |
|
|
Part 172. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
