A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the requirements for screenings to detect vision and |
|
|
hearing disorders in public or private preschools and schools. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 36.004(a), Health and Safety Code, is |
|
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
|
(a) The board by rule shall require screening of individuals |
|
|
who attend public or private preschools or schools to detect vision |
|
|
and hearing disorders and any other special senses or communication |
|
|
disorders specified by the board. In developing the rules, the |
|
|
board may consider the number of individuals to be screened and the |
|
|
availability of: |
|
|
(1) personnel qualified to administer the required |
|
|
screening; |
|
|
(2) appropriate screening equipment, including |
|
|
instrument-based and electronic screening technologies; and |
|
|
(3) state and local funds for screening activities. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
