H.C.R. No. 41
 
 
 
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 
         WHEREAS, The creative spirit of Texas artists is strong, and
  nowhere is it more evident than in the city of Jewett, where the
  work of a number of notable sculptors is celebrated and admired by
  residents and visitors alike; and
         WHEREAS, The Leon County Art Trail program, which is
  sponsored by the Jewett Economic Development Corporation, matches
  sculptures with local business owners, who display the works
  outside their establishments for the public to enjoy; the program
  is also a competition, and each artist selected to participate
  receives a cash prize, with additional awards for first, second,
  and third place winners; and
         WHEREAS, Now in its third year, the 2013 Art Trail features 27
  sculptures in a variety of mediums along Main Street and in Eagle
  Scout Park, and these inventive works range from representational
  to abstract to whimsical; 50 more sculptures are displayed in a
  private gallery, while other works  have been purchased by the city
  or by businesses for permanent display; with more than 90
  sculptures in the city, there is one sculpture for every 13
  residents of Jewett; and
         WHEREAS, Texas is fortunate to be home to many talented
  artists, and the City of Jewett has demonstrated an admirable
  commitment to the cultural enrichment of its community through its
  sponsorship of the Leon County Art Trail; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby commemorate the third annual Leon County Art Trail and
  designate Jewett as the Sculpture Capital of Texas.
