HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 
         WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Austin is celebrating its 100th
  anniversary on April 6, 2013, and this occasion offers a welcome
  opportunity to honor the organization and its many good works; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1913, the Rotary Club of Austin was
  formed to bring together business, professional, and social leaders
  for the purposes of serving others and fostering self-improvement
  among members; the club encourages high ethical standards,
  humanitarian service, and volunteerism, and gives back in a number
  of ways; and
         WHEREAS, With approximately 300 members, the Rotary Club of
  Austin is the largest of the 13 Rotary Clubs in the capital area; it
  is also the oldest of Austin's clubs; its members contribute to the
  initiatives of the Rotary International organization, such as its
  efforts to promote literacy and to improve world health and
  eradicate polio, as well as to local causes; and
         WHEREAS, The club's first and longest-standing service has
  been providing support to the Helping Hand Home for Children;
  moreover, the club organizes Camp Enterprise, a weekend camp for
  high school students that encourages young people to develop and
  propose their own business plans; it also sponsors Fulmore Middle
  School and Dawson and Pecan Springs Elementary Schools, donating
  books, mentoring students, and teaching character building and
  ethics; in addition, the club organizes a citywide project known as
  Service Austin for disadvantaged citizens and makes numerous
  scholarships available to deserving students; and
         WHEREAS, The club's international work includes Group Study
  Exchanges with foreign countries to establish world understanding
  and a special service to military personnel known as Operation
  Vacation Rest and Relaxation, which assists in reconnecting
  families when troops return home, as well as many other projects;
  and
         WHEREAS, For the past century, members of the Rotary Club of
  Austin have performed works of lasting benefit to the local
  community and beyond, and the group's noteworthy achievements are a
  tribute to the dedication of its members, both past and present;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Club of
  Austin and extend to its members sincere best wishes for continued
  success with their important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the club as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives and Senate.
