CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Residents of Lubbock County lost an esteemed civic
  leader with the death of Steven Jones on June 25, 2012, at the age of
  59; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Charlie and Peggy Wilson Jones, Steve
  Jones was born on February 21, 1953, in Lubbock; he graduated from
  New Deal High School and attended Texas Tech University before
  returning to the farm where he grew up; in 1973, he married his high
  school sweetheart, Patti James, and they became the parents of
  three sons, Chad, Casey, and Charles; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Jones had an abiding love of the land, and he
  began his long career in the agricultural industry with his father,
  operating under the name Charlie and Steve Jones Farms and later
  Jones Produce; for the last 12 years of his life, he ran S&P Jones
  Farms with his wife and his son Casey; moreover, he was a partner in
  Jones and Young Livestock, breeding swine that won awards in 4-H and
  FFA livestock shows across Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and
  Wyoming; in 1982, he was recognized with the Outstanding Young
  Farmer of Texas award; and
         WHEREAS, Committed to preserving the livelihood of farmers
  across the state, Mr. Jones was a member of the Boll Weevil
  Eradication Program, served as president of the Lubbock County Ag
  Committee and the Lubbock County Farm Bureau, and was an active
  leader with the Texas AgriLife Demonstration Trials; he further
  contributed to his community as a member of the New Deal First
  Methodist Church; in addition, he served on the New Deal
  Independent School District Board of Trustees for 12 years,
  including several years as president; and
         WHEREAS, When not working or volunteering, Mr. Jones loved
  spending time with his family; he was also an avid bird hunter, and
  he greatly enjoyed bow hunting; and
         WHEREAS, Although Steve Jones is deeply missed, memories of
  his warm smile, wonderful sense of humor, and dedication to the work
  he loved remain to comfort and inspire those he leaves behind; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby pay tribute to the memory of Steve Jones and extend deepest
  sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Patti; to his
  sons, Chad and Casey and his wife, Lacy; to his sisters, Rita Binder
  and her husband, Bobby, Deanie Allen, and Karen Dunn and her
  husband, Rickey; to his brother, Phillip Jones, and his wife,
  Denise; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Legislature
  adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Steve Jones.
