CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The year 2013 marks a special milestone in the rich
  history of Fasken Oil and Ranch, Ltd., with the observance of its
  100th anniversary; and
         WHEREAS, Fasken Oil and Ranch originated in 1913, when David
  Fasken, a barrister from Toronto, Canada, purchased 222,000 acres
  of land, known as C Ranch, located northwest of Midland; this
  initial investment laid the foundation for future development and
  the expansion of the company, which was further secured when oil was
  discovered on the land in 1942; and
         WHEREAS, In the 1950s, David Fasken's grandson, David Fasken,
  Jr., began his own oil and gas exploration and production efforts on
  the property and expanded the company's holdings by acquiring
  ranches in Webb, Reeves, and Culberson Counties; he passed away in
  1982, and his wife, Barbara Fasken, consolidated the various family
  operations into one organization; and
         WHEREAS, Today, Fasken Oil and Ranch, Ltd., employs 200
  people; it continues to be a leader in oil and gas exploration and
  has diversified to include real estate development, including its
  latest project, The Vineyard, a master-planned community that will
  integrate Fasken Headquarters, residential housing, and commercial
  and retail space; and
         WHEREAS, Since 1957, the company has contributed annually to
  local charitable causes through the Fasken family's Prairie
  Foundation; in recent years, it has funded college scholarships and
  supported local organizations that strengthen families and provide
  services to children in need; and
         WHEREAS, The well-being of the people of Texas depends on a
  vibrant, diversified economy, and Fasken Oil and Ranch, Ltd., is to
  be commended for the role it plays in furthering the prosperity of
  the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby congratulate Fasken Oil and Ranch, Ltd., on its 100th
  anniversary and extend to the Fasken family and the company's
  management and employees best wishes for the future; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the company as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
