A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment to require a person to be a |
|
resident of this state for five years preceding the person's |
|
election to the Texas House of Representatives. |
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 7, Article III, Texas Constitution, is |
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 7. No person shall be a Representative[,] unless the |
|
person is [he be] a citizen of the United States, and, at the time of |
|
[his] election as a Representative, a qualified voter of this |
|
State, and shall have been a resident of this State five [two] years |
|
next preceding the [his] election, the last year thereof a resident |
|
of the district for which the person [he] shall be chosen, and shall |
|
have attained the age of twenty-one years. |
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 5, 2013. |
|
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment requiring a person to be |
|
a resident of this state for five years preceding the person's |
|
election to the Texas House of Representatives." |
