R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, College Park Center at The University of Texas at |
|
Arlington opened in February 2012, and this outstanding facility is |
|
indeed a welcome addition to the city; and |
|
WHEREAS, College Park Center is the new home of the UTA men's |
|
and women's basketball teams and the volleyball team, and the |
|
7,000-seat arena in downtown Arlington hosts a range of other |
|
events as well, including concerts, speaking engagements, and |
|
graduation ceremonies; and |
|
WHEREAS, The center is the focal point of the College Park |
|
District, which incorporates housing for 500 students, an |
|
environmentally sustainable park, a parking garage, and retail and |
|
office space; in addition to its innovative design, the buildings |
|
in the 20-acre development maximize energy efficiency by employing |
|
the latest innovations in green technology; and |
|
WHEREAS, The College Park District was brought to fruition |
|
through the shared vision and dedicated efforts of the university, |
|
the City of Arlington, First Baptist Church Arlington, and a number |
|
of notable organizations and community leaders; working together, |
|
they have created a truly impressive urban showpiece that is sure to |
|
be a hub of activity and growth for decades to come; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the opening of College Park Center |
|
at The University of Texas at Arlington and congratulate all those |
|
involved in the completion of this project for a job well done; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the university as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
