R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Family, friends, and former students will long |
|
treasure their memories of educator Margaret Ruth Williams Meador |
|
of Arlington, who died on February 13, 2012, at the age of 75; and |
|
WHEREAS, The former Margaret Williams was born in Lamesa on |
|
November 14, 1936; her parents, Dr. H. V. Williams and Ruth |
|
Williams, were teachers at Baylor University, and following her |
|
graduation from Waco High School, she trained as an opera singer at |
|
Baylor; after receiving her bachelor's degree there, she went on to |
|
earn a master's degree in music from Florida State University and a |
|
master's degree in humanities from The University of Texas at |
|
Arlington; along the way, she married Pete Meador, and though the |
|
couple later divorced, they remained good friends and devoted |
|
parents to their daughter, Karen; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Meador began her career in education as a high |
|
school English teacher, first at Westbury High School in Houston |
|
and then at several schools in the Dallas/Fort Worth area; for the |
|
last 16 years of her life, she was a professor of literature and |
|
humanities at Dallas Baptist University and Texas Wesleyan |
|
University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Professor Meador was a beloved and inspirational |
|
teacher, and she earned the affection and respect of her students |
|
and colleagues alike for her accomplished scholarship and devotion |
|
to the humanities; she was also passionate about the causes in which |
|
she believed, working in behalf of peace and justice and to |
|
alleviate hunger and cruelty to animals; and |
|
WHEREAS, A loving mother and a true and generous friend, |
|
Margaret Meador will be forever remembered by all who knew her for |
|
her intelligence, warmth, and wit; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Margaret Ruth |
|
Williams Meador and extend sincere condolences to the members of |
|
her family: to her daughter, Karen Meador Brown, and her husband, |
|
Daren; to her grandson, Duncan Gabriel Brown; to her sisters, Lisa |
|
Hayes and Catherine Williams; to her sister-in-law, Sandra |
|
Williams; to her brother-in-law, Jim Veninga; to her nieces, Jenny |
|
Veninga, Suzanne Stoner, and Christine Kiss; to her former husband, |
|
Pete Meador; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representative adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Margaret |
|
Ruth Williams Meador. |
