R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The 90th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed a
  special occasion, and Madeleine Kaiser DeWeese of Houston marked
  this significant milestone in her life on April 10, 2012; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1922, the former Madeleine Kaiser grew up in
  Pont-a-Mousson in the Lorraine region of France; she met her future
  husband, E. R. DeWeese, Jr., in November 1944, when he was stationed
  in Lorraine as a quartermaster officer in the United States Army
  during World War II; the couple met through a French family, which
  had welcomed Captain DeWeese as one of their own, and began studying
  English and French together; and
         WHEREAS, Captain DeWeese was transferred stateside soon
  after their marriage, and Mrs. DeWeese made arrangements to follow
  him as soon as possible; following a grueling passage on a converted
  hospital ship, she was reunited with her husband in New York, and
  they rushed to Paris, Texas, to visit his ailing father; a reporter
  from a Dallas newspaper covered her debarkation at Love Field on
  April 4, 1946, in an article recounting her "dramatic 5,000 mile
  dash" to meet her father-in-law; she is believed to have been the
  first war bride to arrive in the area; and
         WHEREAS, After settling in Hugo, Oklahoma, Mrs. DeWeese
  worked diligently to improve her English, and she became a United
  States citizen in 1954; she voted Republican in her first election
  and has maintained steadfast allegiance to the party ever since;
  and
         WHEREAS, Today, Mrs. DeWeese takes great pride in her
  daughters, Vivian Yancey and Donna Patschke, her grandchildren,
  Blake Yancey, Allison Patschke, and Amanda Patschke, and her
  great-grandchild, Colton Parker Yancey; and
         WHEREAS, Madeleine DeWeese has earned the admiration and
  affection of countless people through the years, and it is truly a
  pleasure to honor this treasured nonagenarian; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Madeleine Kaiser DeWeese on her
  90th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. DeWeese as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
