R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Peggy Bass Holton of Terrell is marking a notable |
|
milestone in her life on April 19, 2013, when she celebrates her |
|
91st birthday; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in 1922 to Margaret Hewey Bass and Thomas |
|
Tucker Bass, the former Peggy Bass spent her youth in Jacksonville, |
|
Florida, before moving to Terrell; as a teenager, she enjoyed |
|
sneaking onto the roof of her family's home to enjoy forbidden |
|
cigarettes with her dear friend, Emily; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although her heart was broken when her first love |
|
was killed in World War II, she went on to share a rewarding |
|
marriage with Charlie Holton that spanned 56 years before his |
|
passing in 2003; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Holton values the rich history of her |
|
community; she has been featured on the PBS show Nowhere But Texas, |
|
where she recalled the years of the No. 1 British Flying Training |
|
School, a facility in Terrell that trained more than 2,000 pilots |
|
for the RAF and U.S. Army Air Forces between 1941 and 1945; today, |
|
she lives in a historic home that was once owned by her |
|
grandparents; built in the 19th century, it served as the first |
|
school in Kaufman County; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has greatly enriched the lives |
|
of her family and friends, and she has earned a special place in the |
|
hearts of all those who have the good fortune to know her; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Peggy Bass Holton on the joyous |
|
occasion of her 91st birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes |
|
for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Holton as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
