R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The Navasota High School football team capped an
  undefeated season by winning the University Interscholastic League
  3A Division 2 state title at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington on
  December 21, 2012; and
         WHEREAS, With the victory, the Rattlers established
  themselves as the most successful squad in the school's history,
  capturing Navasota's first state championship in the sport and
  setting the record for most victories with their perfect 16-0
  campaign; and
         WHEREAS, A juggernaut on offense, Navasota averaged more than
  42 points a game throughout the playoffs; in the 39-3 win over
  Gilmer in the championship final, it was Austin Collins who sparked
  the explosive attack; he was named the game's Offensive Most
  Valuable Player after running 82 yards for a touchdown and catching
  two scoring passes; meanwhile, the team's defenders held their
  opponent to just 162 total yards, and Jordan Wells racked up 10
  tackles to earn the Defensive MVP honors; and
         WHEREAS, In an inspiring display of solidarity, the Navasota
  players wore the number 8 on their helmets during the title game to
  honor leading rusher and two-time all-state defensive back Xavier
  Creeks, who was unable to play after suffering a broken leg in a car
  accident the day before the final; and
         WHEREAS, The team was guided by head coach Lee Fedora, whose
  expertise and leadership were essential to his players' dominating
  performances all year long; only three opponents managed to briefly
  take a lead over the Rattlers, and Navasota did not trail after the
  first quarter in any of its games; moreover, 5 of its 10 regular
  season victories were shutouts; and
         WHEREAS, These talented student-athletes demonstrated
  admirable skill and determination in winning the state crown and
  attaining a flawless record against top competition, and they will
  forever treasure the memory of their outstanding accomplishments;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Navasota High School football
  team on winning the 2012 UIL 3A Division 2 state championship and
  extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
