R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The year 2012 marked the 40th anniversary of the
  creation of the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau; and
         WHEREAS, Since its establishment by the city council in 1972,
  the bureau has worked to foster economic growth in its North Texas
  community by promoting Irving both as a prime location for
  conferences and special events and as an exciting destination for
  leisure travelers; the organization has played a vital role in
  bringing more than a million visitors to Irving each year; and
         WHEREAS, Through the bureau's efforts, more than $250 million
  in hotel occupancy taxes has been reinvested in the community; the
  funds have benefited the Irving Arts Center, the Jackie Townsell
  Bear Creek Heritage Center, the Mustang Museum, the city's
  archives, and the recently opened Irving Convention Center at Las
  Colinas, which operates under the bureau's direction; capable of
  accommodating groups of up to 4,000, the convention center has
  garnered numerous awards for its elegant, innovative design; and
         WHEREAS, During the past four decades, the Irving Convention
  and Visitors Bureau has contributed significantly to the city's
  development, and it is a pleasure to commend the members of the
  bureau's staff and board, both past and present, for their vision,
  leadership, and commitment; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Irving
  Convention and Visitors Bureau and extend sincere best wishes for
  continued success to all those affiliated with this worthy group;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
