R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Luis S. Spinola has distinguished himself as the |
|
president and CEO of the Azteca-Omega Group, a much-lauded Texas |
|
contracting firm; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Mexico City, Mr. Spinola worked for his |
|
uncles' construction firms during his youth and went on to earn a |
|
bachelor's degree in civil engineering, graduating summa cum laude |
|
and receiving a medal from the president of Mexico; he later |
|
obtained a master's degree in heavy construction and storm, sewer, |
|
and water line design; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Spinola immigrated to the United States in 1983 |
|
and began hiring employees, many of whom remain with him today; his |
|
company initially performed civil and site work for a private |
|
developer and soon expanded its services to include structural and |
|
concrete work, underground utilities, and ornamental steelwork; |
|
the Azteca-Omega Group has been certified to work with local, |
|
state, and federal agencies and with private-sector clients by the |
|
North and South Central Texas Regional Certification Agencies, the |
|
Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston Minority Supplier Development |
|
Councils, the Texas Department of Transportation, and the Texas |
|
Historically Underutilized Business program; and |
|
WHEREAS, Azteca-Omega has contributed to a number of major |
|
projects, including the retractable steel roof of Cowboys Stadium |
|
in Arlington, the Parkland Hospital expansion, and the Dallas/Fort |
|
Worth International Airport terminal development, and the company |
|
has served as the program manager for a $1 billion Dallas |
|
Independent School District bond program; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Spinola has been recognized numerous times over |
|
the course of his 30-year career, receiving accolades from the |
|
Dallas Business Journal, DART, the Dallas/Fort Worth Minority |
|
Supplier Development Council, the Regional Hispanic Contractors |
|
Association, the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the |
|
Black Contractors Association, and Ernst and Young; he has created |
|
internship programs in partnership with Texas A&M University, the |
|
University of North Texas, and Texas Christian University, among |
|
other institutions, and he has encouraged his employees to become |
|
LEED certified; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through his achievements founding and leading the |
|
Azteca-Omega Group, Luis Spinola has become a true Texas success |
|
story, and in so doing, he has earned the lasting respect and |
|
admiration of many people; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Luis S. Spinola for his work as president |
|
and CEO of the Azteca-Omega Group and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Spinola as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
