R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Each year, people around the world set aside a |
|
|
special time to honor the institution of motherhood, and on May 12, |
|
|
2013, Texans are joining with their fellow Americans in celebration |
|
|
of Mother's Day; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The origins of the Mother's Day observance in the |
|
|
United States can be traced to 1907, when West Virginia resident |
|
|
Anna Jarvis held a ceremony in honor of her deceased mother and then |
|
|
began campaigning for a national holiday to recognize motherhood; |
|
|
she achieved her goal in 1914, when President Woodrow Wilson |
|
|
proclaimed the establishment of Mother's Day and fixed its date as |
|
|
the second Sunday in May; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The holiday unites people from all walks of life in |
|
|
their shared admiration and respect for their mothers, and it |
|
|
offers a welcome opportunity to express gratitude for the countless |
|
|
ways mothers encourage, teach, and inspire their loved ones; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A mother's love is among life's most precious |
|
|
blessings, and the individuals who offer this priceless gift hold a |
|
|
treasured place in the world and in the hearts of the children who |
|
|
cherish them; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate Mother's Day 2013 and extend to all |
|
|
mothers sincere best wishes for an enjoyable holiday. |
