R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Each year, people around the world set aside a
  special time to honor the institution of motherhood, and on May 12,
  2013, Texans are joining with their fellow Americans in celebration
  of Mother's Day; and
         WHEREAS, The origins of the Mother's Day observance in the
  United States can be traced to 1907, when West Virginia resident
  Anna Jarvis held a ceremony in honor of her deceased mother and then
  began campaigning for a national holiday to recognize motherhood;
  she achieved her goal in 1914, when President Woodrow Wilson
  proclaimed the establishment of Mother's Day and fixed its date as
  the second Sunday in May; and
         WHEREAS, The holiday unites people from all walks of life in
  their shared admiration and respect for their mothers, and it
  offers a welcome opportunity to express gratitude for the countless
  ways mothers encourage, teach, and inspire their loved ones; and
         WHEREAS, A mother's love is among life's most precious
  blessings, and the individuals who offer this priceless gift hold a
  treasured place in the world and in the hearts of the children who
  cherish them; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate Mother's Day 2013 and extend to all
  mothers sincere best wishes for an enjoyable holiday.
