R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Houston Young Lawyers Association is
  celebrating its 75th anniversary with a special event on February
  28, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1937 as the Houston Junior Bar
  Association, the HYLA was organized to give young attorneys a place
  to meet and exchange ideas; soon thereafter, it became a part of the
  Houston Bar Association but converted to an independent association
  in the 1970s and adopted its current name; and
         WHEREAS, When Hurricane Alicia struck Houston in 1983, the
  HYLA instituted a disaster assistance program to provide legal help
  to those affected by the storm; in 1990, the group elected its first
  female president, and two years later, it established a foundation
  to run charitable programs; the American Bar Association honored
  the group in 1993 for its initiatives, which today include Internet
  and law seminars, aid to abused women, and youth outreach efforts;
  and
         WHEREAS, From its original 100 members, the HYLA has grown to
  nearly 2,000 employees of large and small law firms, solo
  practitioners, in-house counsel, attorneys in the public and
  nonprofit sectors, and law students; and
         WHEREAS, The Houston Young Lawyers Association provides
  important opportunities for its members to give back to the
  community and to gain experience as leaders, and the organization's
  notable history is indeed worthy of commendation; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Houston
  Young Lawyers Association and extend to all its members sincere
  best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the association as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
