R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of Northwest Assistance Ministries in |
|
|
Houston are gathering together for an interfaith service on |
|
|
February 10, 2013, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the |
|
|
organization; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1983 by 10 area congregations, |
|
|
Northwest Assistance Ministries was born out of the need for social |
|
|
services in north Houston; in its first years, the association |
|
|
operated with limited resources, but it has since grown to become |
|
|
one of the largest charities in the Houston metropolitan area; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Supported by more than 50 congregations, 18 service |
|
|
partner organizations, and over 160 business partners, NAM is |
|
|
operated by 85 employees and some 2,000 volunteers; in 2012, the |
|
|
group served nearly 130,000 residents through a number of worthy |
|
|
initiatives, including a food pantry, meals on wheels, a children's |
|
|
clinic, a family violence center, an interfaith hospitality network |
|
|
shelter, senior transportation, job development and basic |
|
|
education, and housing assistance for the homeless; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the past three decades, Northwest Assistance |
|
|
Ministries has upheld its mission of "neighbors helping neighbors," |
|
|
and its collaborative endeavors have greatly enriched the quality |
|
|
of life for many in the greater Houston area; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor Northwest Assistance Ministries on 30 |
|
|
years of outstanding service and extend to all those associated |
|
|
with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success |
|
|
with their important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for NAM as an expression of high regard by the Texas House |
|
|
of Representatives. |
