R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Con Mi MADRE has
  encouraged and empowered Hispanic girls in the greater Austin area
  to graduate from high school and pursue their higher education
  goals; and
         WHEREAS, Originally known as the Hispanic Mother-Daughter
  Program, Con Mi MADRE was established in 1992 by the Junior League
  of Austin to address the alarming high school dropout rate among
  Hispanic girls; now an independent nonprofit organization housed in
  the School of Social Work at The University of Texas at Austin, the
  program invites 6th- to 12th-grade students to enroll alongside
  their mothers and offers a wide range of free activities and support
  services to help them achieve academic and personal success; and
         WHEREAS, Priority is given to applicants facing significant
  challenges; in 2011-2012, 77 percent of participants came from
  financially disadvantaged households and two-thirds of them were
  potential first-time college graduates; nearly 3,000
  mother-daughter teams have participated in the program to date,
  with 76 percent of graduating seniors going on to attend college;
  and
         WHEREAS, Con Mi MADRE has received the Community Partner
  Award from The University of Texas Division of Diversity and
  Community Engagement, which has also committed $15,000 over three
  years to the organization; in addition to its college preparatory
  services, Con Mi MADRE hosts the annual Corazon Awards to honor
  local civic leaders as well as families that have benefited from its
  program; and
         WHEREAS, Con Mi MADRE has helped numerous area girls build
  confidence, broaden their horizons, and realize their dreams, and
  in so doing, the group has contributed to the betterment of the
  entire community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Con Mi MADRE on its 20th anniversary and
  extend to all those associated with the organization sincere best
  wishes for continued success with their important work; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Con Mi MADRE as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
