R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Mike Price retired as head football coach at The |
|
University of Texas at El Paso in November 2012, drawing to a close |
|
an eight-year tenure with the Miners and more than four decades as a |
|
collegiate coach; and |
|
WHEREAS, After arriving in El Paso in 2004, Coach Price |
|
guided the Miners to three bowl games, helped boost attendance at |
|
home games, and increased awareness of the UTEP program at the |
|
national level; at the time of his retirement, his 177 career |
|
victories ranked sixth among active Football Bowl Subdivision |
|
coaches; and |
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of Puget Sound, Coach |
|
Price began his career as an assistant at Washington State |
|
University in 1969; he also gained experience as an assistant on the |
|
staffs of the University of Missouri and his alma mater before |
|
taking his first head coaching job in 1981 at Weber State |
|
University; and |
|
WHEREAS, From 1989 to 2002, he was head coach at Washington |
|
State, and he led the Cougars to two Pacific 10 Conference |
|
championships, two Rose Bowl games, and three other bowl |
|
appearances; one of his most successful seasons came in 1997, when |
|
he earned a host of Coach of the Year accolades; and |
|
WHEREAS, The skill, professionalism, and commitment to |
|
excellence demonstrated by Mike Price greatly benefited the UTEP |
|
football team, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his many |
|
achievements as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Mike Price on his retirement from |
|
The University of Texas at El Paso and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Coach Price as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
