R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The year 2013 marks the 20th anniversary of the
  installation of the Reverend George T. Curry, Jr., as pastor of
  Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, and this
  occasion provides a welcome opportunity to honor this respected
  member of the clergy; and
         WHEREAS, G. T. Curry, Jr., delivered his first sermon in
  February 1981, and he was ordained in 1990; he assisted his father,
  the Reverend G. T. Curry, Sr., at Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist
  Church and later filled the same role for Pastor B. J. Hunter at
  Galilee Missionary Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, In March 1993, Reverend Curry was named as the
  pastor of Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church, becoming just
  the third individual to hold that post; in the years since, he has
  wholeheartedly committed his talents and energies to assisting the
  members of his congregation while also championing numerous
  outreach initiatives to serve the wider community; and
         WHEREAS, Pastor Curry's leadership proved especially
  effective when the Greater Union church building suffered heavy
  damage from Hurricane Ike in 2008; he devoted countless hours to
  overseeing an extensive restoration project that resulted in a new
  sanctuary and numerous other improvements, and the successful
  completion of this effort has allowed this historic church to
  continue its worthwhile mission; and
         WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Reverend Curry enjoys the
  love and support of his wife, Sherri, and their two sons, George and
  Winston; and
         WHEREAS, For two decades, the Reverend G. T. Curry has
  demonstrated a notable ability to inspire and teach, and his
  unwavering service is greatly appreciated by the membership of
  Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church and by all who have
  benefited from his work; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate George T. Curry, Jr., on the joyous
  occasion of his 20th anniversary as pastor of Greater Union
  Missionary Baptist Church and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  continued achievement; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Reverend Curry as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
