R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Preston Edwards is retiring from the Garland City
  Council in the spring of 2013, having served with distinction as the
  District 3 representative for three consecutive terms; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Edwards moved to Garland from South Texas as a
  youth nearly half a century ago, and he has since established
  himself as a member of Garland's business community; over the
  years, he has repeatedly demonstrated his dedication to the city
  where he met his wife, Shirley, and where the couple raised their
  two children, Sherri and Kevin; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has served on the Garland City
  Council since 2007, and during his tenure, he has held the offices
  of both mayor pro tem and deputy mayor pro tem; Mr. Edwards has also
  rendered significant service to Garland as a member of various
  boards and special committees, including the 1997 Bond Study
  Committee, the South Garland Plan Implementation Committee, the
  Housing Standards Board, the South Garland TIF Board, and the
  Chapter 32.9 Blue Ribbon Committee; and
         WHEREAS, In his coming retirement, Mr. Edwards looks forward
  to spending more time with his family and friends, as well as to
  continuing his involvement in church activities and enjoying his
  two favored pastimes, woodworking and fishing; and
         WHEREAS, Preston Edwards has served the citizens of Garland
  with the utmost ability and devotion, and he may indeed reflect on
  his accomplishments with pride as he looks forward to the next
  exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Preston Edwards on the occasion of
  his retirement from the Garland City Council and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Edwards as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
