R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, In a memorable matchup in the 2010 Sun Bowl in El |
|
Paso, the University of Notre Dame football team concluded its |
|
season with a 33-17 triumph over the University of Miami; and |
|
WHEREAS, Taking the field on December 31 before the largest |
|
crowd in Sun Bowl history, the Fighting Irish cruised to victory |
|
after jumping out to a 14-0 lead during the first quarter and |
|
stretching their advantage to 24 points by halftime; the win |
|
extended the team's late-season winning streak to four games and |
|
gave Notre Dame a final record of eight wins and five losses; and |
|
WHEREAS, Providing the offensive spark for the Irish was |
|
quarterback Tommy Rees, who passed for 201 yards and two |
|
touchdowns; Michael Floyd was on the receiving end of both TD tosses |
|
and hauled in four other passes to finish with 109 yards for the |
|
day; on the other side of the ball, the resolute Notre Dame defense |
|
held Miami to just three points during the first three quarters and |
|
collected a total of four interceptions; and |
|
WHEREAS, With their defeat of the University of Miami, the |
|
Fighting Irish claimed Notre Dame's 15th bowl game victory, and the |
|
memory of that accomplishment will be cherished by the team and its |
|
loyal fans for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the University of Notre Dame |
|
football team on winning the 2010 Sun Bowl in El Paso; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the University of Notre Dame as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
