R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Samantha Hernandez of the Garland Independent School District has been selected to participate in the 2012-2013 New Science Teacher Academy; and

WHEREAS, The New Science Teacher Academy was developed by the National Science Teachers Association in cooperation with the Amgen Foundation to promote quality science instruction by helping teachers increase their content knowledge, enhance their confidence, and improve classroom techniques; participants are chosen from across the country based on their background in science and a demonstrated interest in growing as a professional science educator; and

WHEREAS, One of only 26 educators in Texas chosen for the academy, Ms. Hernandez is an eighth-grade science teacher at the Jackson Technology Center for Math and Science; over the course of the academic year, she will take part in professional development activities, receive online mentoring, and obtain financial support to attend the 2013 National Conference on Science Education; and

WHEREAS, Samantha Hernandez has shown passion, commitment, and creativity in serving the Garland Independent School District, and her selection for this prestigious program is a source of great pride to her school and her community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Samantha Hernandez on her selection for the 2012-2013 New Science Teacher Academy and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success with her important work; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Hernandez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
