R E S O L U T I O N

|
WHEREAS, Petra Valdez of Robstown is retiring as the owner of |
|
|
the Ideal Beauty Shop after 60 years of dedicated service to her |
|
|
clientele; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Valdez took up her vocation after attending |
|
|
beauty school in Corpus Christi; her self-confidence sometimes put |
|
|
her at odds with demanding instructors, but she quickly won the |
|
|
affection of her classmates with her generous nature and the aid of |
|
|
a few lunchtime soft drinks; after being refused a job at four |
|
|
salons in Robstown, the determined 17-year-old started Ideal Beauty |
|
|
Shop with a bank loan in 1952; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The new business thrived under her guidance, and |
|
|
through the years it has become a cherished gathering spot for |
|
|
customers, friends, and family; working closely with fellow |
|
|
stylists Emma Vasquez and Carmen Ramos, Mrs. Valdez has created a |
|
|
homelike atmosphere at the shop, warmly greeting patrons who gather |
|
|
to play games and share stories amid the bustle of styling and |
|
|
cutting at this downtown landmark; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Highly skilled as well as personable, Mrs. Valdez is |
|
|
renowned for her work; her devoted clients praise her abilities, |
|
|
and many out-of-town customers would put off haircuts until they |
|
|
could get to Robstown to visit the adept scissors being wielded at |
|
|
the Ideal Beauty Shop; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Valdez may indeed look forward to a rewarding |
|
|
retirement as she begins this exciting new chapter in her life; in |
|
|
1982, she was reacquainted with her high school sweetheart, and two |
|
|
years later she and Joe Valdez were married; with her husband and a |
|
|
wealth of friends to keep her company, the days ahead are certain to |
|
|
remain busy and bright for this beloved lady; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For six decades, Petra Valdez has helped to keep |
|
|
Robstown beautiful, and she may take justifiable pride in her |
|
|
accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Petra Valdez for her successful |
|
|
operation of the Ideal Beauty Shop for 60 years and extend to her |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mrs. Valdez as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
