R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Garland Independent School District collected
  more than 100,000 items during its 2012 food drive; and
         WHEREAS, Each year, the students and staff of Garland ISD
  join together to collect nonperishable food for families in need,
  and in 2012 the school district gathered a total of 101,157 items;
  it was the seventh time in the past eight years that Garland ISD
  passed the 100,000 mark, and to date the district has donated more
  than 2.3 million items to local families; and
         WHEREAS, During the 2012 drive, a number of campuses
  distinguished themselves with exceptional collection rates;
  Hickman Elementary led schools at all levels with more than 26 cans
  collected per student, followed by Luna Elementary, which averaged
  nearly 16 cans per student, and the Beaver Technology Center for
  Math and Science, which came in third with 11.23 items per student;
  Austin Academy for Excellence took top honors in the middle school
  category with 3.5 cans per student, while students at North Garland
  High School placed first in their category with almost 6.5 items per
  student; other schools that contributed significantly to this
  worthy endeavor were the Classical Center at Brandenburg, O'Banion
  Middle School, and Rowlett and Sachse High Schools; and
         WHEREAS, The annual food drives of Garland ISD have greatly
  benefited countless local residents, and the district's continued
  support of the community is indeed deserving of special
  recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Garland Independent School
  District on its successful 2012 food drive and commend its students
  and their families as well as its staff and faculty for their
  compassion and generosity; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Garland ISD as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
