R E S O L U T I O N

|
WHEREAS, For nearly six decades, the Chinese Professional |
|
|
Club of Houston has hosted a yearly Scholarship Ball and Chinese New |
|
|
Year Celebration, and members of the Houston community are |
|
|
gathering to commemorate the 59th annual gala on February 23, 2013; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The event will honor scholarship recipients, pay |
|
|
tribute to notable individuals and businesses, and offer a festive |
|
|
observance of the new year; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Since its establishment in 1950, the Chinese |
|
|
Professional Club of Houston has sought to enhance the business |
|
|
skills and expertise of its associates through periodic seminars, |
|
|
lectures, and roundtable discussions; in addition, regular |
|
|
gatherings are held to encourage fellowship and mutual |
|
|
understanding among members; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The organization is also committed to promoting |
|
|
educational opportunities for youth of Chinese descent; in 1977, |
|
|
the club created the CPC Scholarship Fund, which through the years |
|
|
has awarded more than $370,000 to hundreds of high school seniors in |
|
|
the Bayou City; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Chinese Professional Club of Houston is making |
|
|
an immeasurable contribution not only to its participants, but also |
|
|
to the greater community, and it is a pleasure to celebrate and |
|
|
support the important work of this notable group; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Chinese Professional Club of |
|
|
Houston on the occasion of the 59th annual Scholarship Ball and |
|
|
Chinese New Year Celebration and extend sincere best wishes and a |
|
|
happy Year of the Snake to all in attendance at the event; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the Chinese Professional Club of Houston as an |
|
|
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
