R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Chief Lonnie Bernhardt retired from the Southside |
|
|
Place Police Department on January 18, 2013, drawing to a close an |
|
|
outstanding career in public safety; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Chief Bernhardt began his tenure in law enforcement |
|
|
in 1984, when he was hired by the Harris County Sheriff's Department |
|
|
as a reserve deputy; he went on to serve with the Jersey Village |
|
|
Police Department and joined the police force in Southside Place in |
|
|
1989; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Initially a part-time warrant officer, he took a |
|
|
full-time assignment with the department in 1994 and subsequently |
|
|
distinguished himself as a patrol officer and sergeant before he |
|
|
was named chief of police; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Chief Bernhardt |
|
|
also compiled 20 years of exemplary service with the Houston Fire |
|
|
Department; in retirement, he looks forward to spending time with |
|
|
his 6 children and 10 grandchildren; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Lonnie Bernhardt's dedication, professionalism, and |
|
|
expertise have greatly benefited his fellow citizens, and he may |
|
|
indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on |
|
|
the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor Chief Lonnie Bernhardt on his retirement |
|
|
from the Southside Place Police Department and extend to him |
|
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Chief Bernhardt as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
