R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Distinguished members of the Baylor University
  community are gathering at the State Capitol on February 27, 2013,
  to celebrate the school's many achievements and contributions to
  the Lone Star State; and
         WHEREAS, Chartered in 1845 by the Republic of Texas through
  the efforts of Baptist pioneers, Baylor University is the oldest
  continuously operating university in the state; originally located
  in Independence, it was later moved to Waco, where the campus
  currently encompasses 1,000 acres near the picturesque banks of the
  Brazos River; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout its 168-year history, Baylor has adapted
  to meet the ever-changing needs of those it serves, while
  continuing to honor its heritage as a Christian university; and
         WHEREAS, This nationally ranked institution offers 147 areas
  of study, preprofessional tracks, and specialized academic
  opportunities for a diverse student body of more than 15,000; and
         WHEREAS, Baylor University has earned an international
  reputation for educational excellence; the school's outstanding
  alumni include CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, religious leaders,
  Olympic athletes, and representatives in the state and federal
  government; and
         WHEREAS, Baylor University has provided generations of
  students with an exceptional education and a strong, principled
  foundation, and in doing so, "Baylor Nation" has contributed
  immeasurably to the history and the future of the Lone Star State;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize February 27, 2013, as Baylor Day at
  the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to all those from the
  university who are visiting here today.
