R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Residents of Fair Oaks Ranch are celebrating in 2013 |
|
the 25th anniversary of the incorporation of their city, as well as |
|
the 20th anniversary of their police department; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1975, the Ralph Fair, Jr., family began to |
|
subdivide its 5,000-acre family ranch, a property situated in |
|
Bexar, Comal, and Kendall Counties; Don Smith, of the Don Smith |
|
Company, and Bob Weiss, of Ralph Fair, Inc., led the development |
|
undertaking, and the new, unincorporated community that emerged |
|
soon boasted its own water and wastewater services, together with a |
|
homeowners association and a country club; and |
|
WHEREAS, Within a decade, approximately 1,000 people called |
|
the area home; in 1987 two cities, Fair Oaks Ranch North and Fair |
|
Oaks Ranch South, were established, and the following year, voters |
|
elected to consolidate those communities into one, which became |
|
known simply as Fair Oaks Ranch; Boots Gaubatz, the first mayor of |
|
the new city, served for almost 20 years; he was succeeded by Dan |
|
Kasprowicz and then by Cheryl Landman, who presently heads the city |
|
government; and |
|
WHEREAS, Soon after the incorporation of Fair Oaks Ranch, |
|
city officials contracted for fire protection and emergency medical |
|
services, and in 1993, Chief Roy Thomas organized the Fair Oaks |
|
Ranch Police Department, which is marking two decades of service to |
|
the community this year; and |
|
WHEREAS, Fair Oaks Ranch obtained an additional 3,258 acres |
|
in 2006, when San Antonio released that land from its |
|
extraterritorial jurisdiction; the city continues to grow and to |
|
offer a rich variety of amenities and residential lifestyles; and |
|
WHEREAS, The success of Fair Oaks Ranch owes much to the |
|
dedication of its elected officials and of many private citizens, |
|
who have all given abundantly of their talents and expertise to help |
|
the city flourish; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the City of Fair Oaks Ranch on the 25th |
|
anniversary of its incorporation and on the 20th anniversary of the |
|
establishment of its police department; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the City of Fair Oaks Ranch as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
