R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Friends, neighbors, and colleagues are gathering to |
|
|
honor the courage and distinguished service of Garland firefighter |
|
|
Devon Colbert on March 23, 2013; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After serving in the United States Navy, Devon |
|
|
Colbert became a member of the Rockwall Volunteer Fire Department; |
|
|
in 2011, he realized a lifetime dream when he officially joined |
|
|
Garland's Fire Station No. 7; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Praised by his colleagues for his inexhaustible work |
|
|
ethic and positive attitude, Mr. Colbert has been a model |
|
|
firefighter; tragedy struck, however, in December 2012, when he was |
|
|
seriously injured in a car accident; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Now tackling his recovery with the same zeal with |
|
|
which he trained to become a firefighter, Mr. Colbert is an |
|
|
inspiration to his community; members of the Garland and Rockwall |
|
|
Fire Departments and of the Garland Firefighters Association, Local |
|
|
1293, along with area residents, have joined in forming "Team |
|
|
Devon," many wearing t-shirts with the phrase "No Brother Battles |
|
|
Alone," to show their support for this valiant first responder; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Colbert is supported by |
|
|
the love of a devoted family that includes his wife, Emily, and |
|
|
their two young sons; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Texans owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude to the |
|
|
firefighters who protect their lives, their families, and their |
|
|
property; Devon Colbert's willingness to do the challenging and |
|
|
dangerous work of keeping others safe embodies the true nature of |
|
|
heroism, and it is indeed fitting that he be recognized for his |
|
|
consummate professionalism and for his determined, tenacious |
|
|
spirit; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor Devon Colbert for his outstanding public |
|
|
service and extend to him heartfelt best wishes for the future; and, |
|
|
be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Devon Colbert as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
