R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Over the past 47 years, the members of the
  Richardson chapter of Altrusa International have generously
  volunteered their time and energy to enhancing the lives of others;
  and
         WHEREAS, Founded in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1917, Altrusa
  International is a nonprofit community service organization with
  392 chapters in 19 countries; the Richardson chapter was organized
  on February 16, 1966, and chartered on May 23, 1967, and by
  dedicating themselves to doing good while developing their
  leadership skills and making lasting friendships, the women of
  Altrusa Richardson have compiled a nearly half-century record of
  making meaningful contributions to their community; and
         WHEREAS, The chapter's ongoing projects include providing
  support for Ability House, a home for six adults with cerebral
  palsy, and sponsoring a variety of programs and activities at
  Terrace Elementary School in Richardson, including field trips, a
  weekly enrichment program, a parent/child reading program, and an
  annual Good Manners Party; and
         WHEREAS, The members of the chapter's Seniors Committee
  volunteer every year with the Alzheimer's Walk, help organize the
  twice-yearly Appletree Court Auction, and organize a monthly bingo
  game and an annual Easter tea party for the residents of Atria
  Assisted Living Center; the members of the International Relations
  Committee help promote World Literacy Day and cover one child's
  school tuition through the PEP Kids sponsorship program, and they
  initiated a pen pal exchange between Terrace Elementary and a
  school in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; and
         WHEREAS, In addition, the Community Outreach Committee
  collects donations for NETWORK of Community Ministries in
  Richardson, sponsors an annual literacy event every October,
  assists in the Richardson Reads One Book program, and participates
  in the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against
  Women each November; and
         WHEREAS, Altrusa Richardson's work with Ability House was
  recognized with the Ability Connection Outstanding Organization
  Award, and for its efforts on behalf of the children at Terrace
  Elementary, the chapter was recognized by the board of trustees of
  the Richardson Independent School District and honored as an
  Outstanding Group by Helping Agencies Serving Richardson; and
         WHEREAS, Service organizations play an essential role in the
  well-being of Texans, and for nearly half a century, the women of
  Altrusa Richardson have made a positive difference in the world
  around them; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Altrusa Richardson on its 47th
  anniversary and extend to the chapter's members sincere best wishes
  for continued success in their important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Altrusa Richardson as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
